Paul from Chicago writes, "I wanted to propose in a way that was special for both of us. At the time, we were living in Colorado and we both really enjoyed spending time in the mountains, especially in summertime. Annie and I had hiked a lot together but neither of us had climbed one of Colorado's fourteen thousand foot peaks. So we planned to climb our first one together in mid-July. My plan was finally in motion - I would propose at the top of the mountain! About a week before the hike, I told Annie's mom and my parents about my plan. They would invite all of our friends to a surprise engagement party at our house upon our return. The day finally came. With our dog Boogie by our side, we hiked Mt. Bierstadt in about 4 hours. After soaking in the beautiful views, the nerves started kicking in because I knew the time had finally come! I reached in my backpack, changed into my tuxedo shirt (I had these printed with our names, date, Mt. Bierstadt and elevation for all of the guys waiting at my house), withdrew to one knee and popped the question! We embraced to cheers and clapping from fellow climbers. It was pretty cool!"
Brian and Eve from Johor Bahru, Malaysia write:
Brian: "The proposal is carried out at the Starbuck where we first started dating. Accompanied by 101 roses (already prepared earlier by 2 buddies), this proposal really surprised Evelyn. When they appeared and presented the flowers to Eve, she immediately burst with tears of surprises; this is when I kneeled down and asked Eve to marry me. Seeing her saying "YES" really brightens up my day, I know my life is moving to a new chapter now, a commitment of lifetime starts from today onwards."
Eve: “I love Brian's proposal, the 101 roses and the bears. I was really surprise that why he waked me up from my nap, asked me to have coffee with him at the Starbuck and asking me weird questions during the coffee session.Suddenly his two buddies appeared presenting the roses to me, I was stunned when he kneeled down and asked me to marry him. However, the decision is not so hard after all ; )”

Erica from Iowa City writes, "Though they became engaged in just one day, Aaron and the family
kept the ring a secret for months!
Erica's Godmother, her Great Great Aunt Edna, passed away in May, right
before her 96th birthday. Knowing how much Edna meant to Erica, Aaron
wrote a letter to her mom asking to secretly purchase Edna's wedding ring.
After gaining permission from the estate lawyer and Edna's seven neices
and nephews (including Erica's grandmother), Aaron bought the ring in
secret. The next five months, all of Erica's family and Aaron's parents
managed to keep the secret.
Aaron, however, managed to fool them all. He told everyone conflicting
dates for his proposal. Most thought it would be after Christmas and most
likely on New Year's Eve. However, Aaron and Erica went skiing at Chestnut
Mountain in Galena on December 21, 2005. After a beautiful day (with very
few spills), they headed to Vinny Vanuchi's Italian Restaurant. Since
Erica did not know about the surprise, she invited her parents to join
them! Aaron remained patient, though, and he and Erica took a walk after
dinner. After climbing innumerable stairs, and while enjoying the
breathtaking (literally!) view, Aaron knelt and asked Erica to marry him.
The surprise was almost ruined when Aaron dropped the ring early in the
day and Erica caught a sparkling glimpse! Thinking quickly, while Erica
got gas for the trip, he found an adjustable silver clamp about the size
of a ring at the gas station and managed to (almost) convince her she had
seen it, and not a ring. His story got him through the day and surprised
Erica when he finally proposed.
Tricia from Winnetka writes of her husband Andy's proposal, "Andy took us on a surprise trip to NYC during Christmas of 1997. He claimed his parents couldn't use the tickets for their trip so he was able to book a quick trip. I had no clue. We stayed with friends the first night and the second was to be in a hotel. One the eve of our second night, he took me to Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas tree and then to central Park for a carriage ride. It was during the ride when he proposed to me on bended knee with the exact ring I had picked out in a magazine long before and kept folded up in my dresser at home (*editors note: not every guy is so lucky to have that kind of guidance...thank God for The Right Ring.) It was magical and so sweet--full of love. We were thrilled and went on to have a super romantic holiday dinner at this restaurant called "One if by Land, Two if by Sea" in Greenwich Village. He was so damn cute and I was just so amazed that he planned everything!
Heather in Denver writes of her husband Doug, "My lovely husband proposed to me in one of the most romantic places in the world-in front of the Notre Dame in Paris. It was perfect and I loved seeing him so nervous and giddy, because he never acts like that normally. It's nice to think he actually took the time to plan out something so important and wanted to make it a perfect and special day."
Finally, our favorite story comes from Mara and Craig in Evergreen, Colorado: "Craig bought a ring and was planning to propose on our trip to Yellowstone National Park over the 2000 New Year celebration. His parents and brother's family were all there. He planned a snowmobile trip into Yellowstone National Park. We were with a whole tour group and had an amazing time seeing the beautiful scenery. Little did I know that Craig had the engagement ring in his pocket and told his family before he and I left that morning that he was going to propose on the trip. The problem arose when we were put in a tour group with some really obnoxious people that totally ruined Craig's idea of how romantic the proposal would be. Craig didn't propose that trip and when we arrived back at the condo his brother had champagne in the fridge and Craig had to frantically wave his arms behind me as we walked in the door to let his brother know he hadn't popped the question. Anyway, I was oblivious to all of this until 8 MONTHS LATER when he finally did propose on my birthday at Lake Dillon on a canoe ride! He kept the ring hidden behind his TV for 8 MORE MONTHS before he proposed."
Laura from Philadelphia writes, "We never spoke of marriage, never made any mention of someday we would be married. The love of my life called me one night to tell me we were going out. I was picked up in a limo and taken to the place we had gone on our first date. After about 3 hours I was asked what was in my drink. Imagine my surprise when I saw the rings in the bottom of my glass. I was shaking so bad, I almost couldn't retrieve the rings! Not an original story, but I honestly had no idea he wanted me by his side forever until then!" |
